There has been several black drivers.
1956:Charlie Scott drove for Carl Kiekhaefer.
1961-1973 Wendell Scott won a race in 1964 made 495 starts.
1986 Willy T.Ribbs made 3 starts
Presently Bill lester drives in the Craftsman Truck Seris.
Plus on the local level there have been several with NASCAR ties.

Bill Lester is on the Cup Circuit although he isn't full time, he has run a few races this season. He has a hard time getting sponsorship. I hope he can find a ride next year and we will see what he is made of.
To dispel the myth, NASCAR is not anti-black. They welcome ANY qualified driver. I know that Bill Lester isn't the only black driver. there was a black driver many years ago that won a race. I don't remember his name, though.

nascar is trying to start the diversity program and get more black drivers involved.

bill lester rides in the truck series, but i doubt there will ever be huge flux of black nascar drivers, just because it isnt really isnt the sport of interest in most black communities, most black these days will grow up wishing to be bball or fball players as opposed to race car drivers.

Bill Lester is in the Busch series. He tried to qualify for the Nextel cup series in Atlanta but didn't make it in. I think he will make the next time he's tries. Wendell Scott in 1963, George Witshire and Randy Bethea in 1975, Willy T Ribbs in 1986 raced in cup series. I Think this is right.

NASCAR's already had a black driver....it's inevitable that it will happen again. It seems weird that there aren't any now, but if you look at motor sports in general, the only type that I've noticed that has a lot of blacks is motorcycle dragracing. I can't explain why, but that's true.

Bill Lester has been in a couple of races this year I know he races at Michigan..there have been others but i can't recall there names....and yes there will be one day a black driver..maybe within the next 5 years

Bill Lester has been driving in the Craftsmen truck series for years. This year he qualified and raced in his first Nextel Cup Race.
