Why can't I get a remote control lock for the home which works in conjunction with an alarm system in exactly the same manner as the standard car remote/lock systems on virtually every new car on the market?

You must not be living in CA. I just visited model homes that have "whole house" security systems that are wired into the security system and operate the locks by remote. To open the door manually, however, you have to enter a code to unlock the door without the remote. I think the Protection One company installed them, but Brinks has a similar system.
