that means destroying the enemy territory and killing every single man, woman, and child that trys to stop the destruction of the enemy territory.

The only way that could happen is if you destroy their basic necessites: Communications, Electricity, Food supplies, Water Supplies. Since this is impossible without casualites, I think the answer would be no.

Yes it can. Usually in war the attackers are not trying to destroy territory, they are trying to destroy governments. And at the end of wars, after the treaty has been signed there is always someone bitter about the end of the war. But they do not need to be killed, they will in most cases give in after a while. However me being the conservative that I am, I prefer peace through superior firepower.

Yes it can. Take a look at the 3 countries that fought against the Allies in WWII: Germany, Italy and Japan. They are all doing very well now and they were not totally destroyed. In fact, once the war was over, their former enemies helped them rebuild.

You are wrong only inasmuch as history relates just the opposite. But, one of the posts suggests a war can be won without a shot being fired... Being so out of step with reality that one wonders where he has been most of his life.... The attacks on this country for the past 20 some years is to be considered no differently than the attack on Pearl Harbor to start the second world war. There is no room for diplomacy as there is nothing to discuss with terrorists.. They are very intent in what they intend to accomplish.. no way to talk them out of it.. Any dreamer who thinks otherwise is pretty far out in dreamland. Those who think it is all about Israel are sadly mistaken.. it is the domination of the world with Islam as the world's religion. If you can accept that, there will be no problem for you.

War and violence can be avoided if everyone show some flexibility. Usually it`s the people who suffer and the leaders that move to another country with private jets if war is lost.
