They won't use a GA because of your fathers heart problems, it will be to dangerous, it could result in a cardiac arrest, they will give him a local anaesthetic, which is where they inject into part of the body they are working on, your father won't feel anything with this, it's not really advisable to go asking on here for different types of anaesthetic, the doctors know what is safe and what isn't, and your dads safety comes first

Well yes as your father has heart problems usually its to risky to put you father under by GA,so this is why they normally use a safer way off anaesthetic.A spinal anaesthetic is where they will completly make the whole body numb with a injection in the spine,a local injection is where they inject the area off where they will operate and you dont feel nothing, and also a biers block is where they will put a cuff round the top part off the arm and get inflated really tight, then a injection will be given in the arm, this is used alot for manipulating arm fractures bck into to alligment. The consultant will talk through the procedure they will use,and all these are safer then putting your father under a GA.Good Luck.

A local nerve block, where the entire arm can be numbed may work.
Also, there are a number of success stories where people have used hypnosis to block pain during an operation, all they use is a sedative so that the patient is less likely to move during the operation.

They can do a local block of just his arm. He will be awake, mildly sedated and they do the surgery. It's kinda like a epidural when you have a baby only this is for the arm. Same effect. They do these all the time even for hip surgery.

A local nerve block for his arm would work. A Bier block would also be effective.
