Why are American's so obssesed with food?

Seriously.

I'm not anti-America.
But we are seriously the only nation with a McDonald's on every corner.

In Poland, you will never find advertisements of food, maybe like a pizza hut or something, but not every 5 minutes "greasy big quadruple burger for 99 cents" or "eat 5 fried things for 5 dollars and get it in 5 minutes" etc etc etc. I love food, and I enjoy eating, but how can you eat taco bell and burger king 8 times a day everyday?

I'll tell you my conception. Americana's are constantly bombarded by "food ads" - everywhere they turn, from infancy!Your status in your own community is judged by the contents of your refrigerator and cupboards!Poverty rains around us, in both our Countries, yet we are the most "out of shape" and "overweight" of all! Did you know, that when an Immigrant arrives in "either" of our Countries, that within l-year, the average weight gain is 70lbs. See, TV - food shows, McDonald's,Burger King, Super Size, Doubles, name it - so American's aren't OBSESSED with food, they are inundated with it.

Health and food are the main ingrediants to sustain a good Life. Years ago, the food was not in great abundance. Every Generation from the time they came here as Emmigrants, have worked hard and grown their own foods. Back in the days of the Depression, the food and work was scare. We are children from the Great Depression and all the decendents, from that era have been spoiled after that. Our wonderful Government and farmers have worked to provide the Great Food Basket and all of us Americans give Thanks for that. Sometimes we forget. Many times the citizens don't know of those hard times. But our Grandparents worked hard, so their Grandchildren would not have to go without. And then our Government has made sure we have access to Plenty. So we are not obssesed, but are so blest, to have so much. Any kind of food. Most of it we can afford. I am seriousl. We are truely Blest. Give Thanks Unto the Lord. That is why America Helps so many Countries who are without and not as fortunate. We also Share our abundance. We have helped many starving countries. We are obssesed with helping other starving countries.

This can be a rather loaded question...I think this obsession begins at an early age; programmed by fast food menus all over the world. Once children find that connection with the unhealthy but often delicious tasting food, it's all over but the crying. Some genetics and metabolism play a factor as well. Nonetheless, this begins with the parent.

Honestly I'm American I couldn't agree more, if you look at TV commercials every other one is a food advertisement. You walk do the street or take the train every other person is overweight. I think America has way too much wealth and we abuse it, but hey that's just my opinion.

Um, it's good.
Why are you so anti-American? (I've looked at some answers you have on here?) What are you jealous of. Where are you from? I suppose you'll say your from Jersey or something. Sigh...........
But it is OK, I promise we won't hurt you. But if you go around clumping groups of people all together and looking at them as all being the same than it is you we should be worried about.
Just some FOOD for thought.

food is like a movie for the mouth, and every one loves a good movie!! and different kinds of movies. no one likes to watch the same thing over and over. so goes for the mouth. Gotta keep it happy.

Because we have SO much of it! It's soooooooo good! I'm not fat or anything, but I love all types of food that we have. Italian, Greek, Chinese, Thai, Mexican . . .
It's SO delicious.
Yes, I agree that we as a nation suffer with eating issues, but please don't generalize.

haha, i'm an american, and i really don't know. i love food though! i'm fairly thin, but i've always battled being fat throughout my life. I'd never stop eating if i could!
