Hi there. I have to agree - do not sing from the show. However, I would suggest that you look at other songs that Judy Garland sang. That will show the directors you can sing in her range. Check out www.imdb.com - it lists the songs she sang in each show. And one that would be a good choice, that I'm betting you know is "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" She sang it in "Meet Me in St. Louis." But most of all sing something you feel good singing. Be confident and have fun! Break a Leg!

Dorothy only has "over the rainbow" as her signature song throughout the entire show, so there's not much of a choice there. Singing that song will help whoever is casting you to visualise your suitability for the role as Dorothy.

But if you do use a different song, make sure you use one in the same range to display your vocal ability. Remember that many girls will sing "over the rainbow" at the audition.

I auditioned Dorothy a few years ago and we didn't have a choice but to sing the song accapella. Half the girls came unprepared and got the tune mixed up with Eva Cassidy's version.

I wish you good luck!

Use a song that shows off the best parts of your voice, whether that is your range or dynamics or whatever.
DO NOT use a song from the show for which you are auditioning! I was once told by a highly respected director that one should NEVER sing a song from that show, nor should one pick an audition piece written by the same composer.
The individual song is entirely up to you, but just make sure you are comfortable with it, & it shows a good representation of your voice.

Definitely Over the Rainbow. I suspect they might ask for that. I am really into singing and performing as well. My general rule of thumb is to find something I like. I always have my parents or friends commenting on what I should do next, and I have always found it works out better in the end, if I choose a song, I really like and am comfortable with.

I remember one time, I was going to perform a Christmas song, and my Mom really wanted me to sing "Breath of Heaven", we bought the C.D. without the words to practice and we were going to tell the band what song I had chosen the following week. I tried the song and found I couldn't hit a lot of the notes required for it. I was upset with myself because I had really wanted to sing that song for my Mom, but I knew I couldn't do it.

Movie version or stage version? Different songs!?

If it's movie version you have to do OTRainbow. It's the signature song and they are going to want to know how you can pull it off. If you can't you don't want to embarass yourself by winning the part!!!

Garland was an alto so you should be able to find it in an acceptable key. Can you get a copy of the score or recorded background that they will be using?

DO NOT SING OVER THE RAINBOW!!!!!!

Directers do not like it when you sing a song from the show you audition for. It makes a person sound to desperate for that role. You can sing tomorrow from annie, or i can hear the bells from hairspray!
