I am currently in a grad level adolecent ficion class and I'm wanting to write a very unique paper on the Harry Potter series. I have pages of ideas but nothing that is really jumping out at me. . .
Ex: The importance of objects w/in Hp, Adults protrayed in HP, Women Warriors in HP, Orphans. muggles. mudbloods and purbloods, Mental illness in HP, government corruption in HP, Espionage in HP, Harry and Voldemort two sides of one coin.

These are just some of them which of the above sounds most interesting? or do you have a better suggestion

i think a paper comparing and contrasting muggles mudbloods and purbloods sounds interesting. You could also do a paragraph about how lord voldemort and harry are alike and different.
If that ideadoesn't jump out at you you could also do a paper about how the characters change throughout the different books.the characters change significently. You could also talk about the relationships between the different characters as well. I hope this helps you with your paper good Luck!

Compare Harry Potter to the traditional gothic novels like Walpole's Otranto, Radcliffe's Udolpho, The Italian, etc. Maybe show how there techniques are still used in modern day literature.

You can explain how modern political notions are protrayed in fictional books. This would be a survey of some of the topics you have already mention. Think about some of the actions of the Ministry of Magic's actions resembled those of U.S. or U.K. after 9/11 and now in the "war on terror."

muggles/mudbloods/purebloods is something that interests me, classes of society (eg blacks being called *******, aussies being called skips and italians wogs) the purebloods are like the elite, where the muggles i suppose would be the ******* (i am not racist, just using a common example) they are discriminated against because they are not like the others. Government corruption is pretty awesome too, you could bring it into real life by comparing it to oter government cover ups (all countries have them) failing that, I quite like the idea of good and evil within the book, and seeing that the good guys make mistakes too. I think its a good theme anyway.

mental illness in HP sounds interesting enough, but I do not however know the difficulty of finding enough information. Harry and voldemort two sides of one coin sounds like the easiest to do, but your professor may find it too easy... if you think Mental illness doesn't have enough info. I would suggest the government corruption in HP because you deterime the level of difficulty and you have enough info. hope this isn't to confusing..

I'd suggest a paper on the relationship between Voldemort and Harry, what effects it has on the story.

Perhaps you could do something on how even though everything around them is going down the tubes and most of the main characters are getting dumb, Fred and George have been delightful all throughout the thing.
Like, a study of pure optimism or something.

The HP phenomenon; cultural impact-movies, merchandise, websites etc.
While I know you aren't going to cite Wikipedia in your paper, you should look at this link if you want to do this topic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_potter#Cultural_impact
