This is an article criticizing the value of flu shots, and refers to them as "one of the greatest medical cons perpetrated on the populations of the world." It also goes on to discuss how they're actually more harmful than useful.

I just got mine yesterday and it didn't hurt. Although my arm is a little sore to the touch today. But it's really not too bad, the 6 year old who got hers before me didn't even shed a tear. Just make sure your arm is relaxed and you'll be fine. The reason you think you get the flu anyway may be it's a different flu than the one the shot covers or it's just a cold or it was before the shot took effect. The flu shot doesn't really kick in for about 2 weeks. You can get the flu anytime before then.
Lots of people commonly mistake a simple cold for the flu. Just go get it. You'll be fine.
If you think it's going to hurt, take some tylenol just before you leave the house. It will have time to take effect by the time you get your shot.

coming form someone who gives flu shots....first of all. YOU CANT GET THE FLU FROM A FLU SHOT the flu shot doesnt prevent you from getting the flu either. basically you wouldnt get the flu as bad if u get the flu shot. if the nurse does a good technique..it shouldnt hurt, and if hurts after because the needle goes into your muscle and puts in medicine. get the shot in your non-dominat arm because it will leave it a bit sore put a warm compress on the shot site after the shot and move your arm around to prevent it from being stiff the next day. also..you dont really need a flu shot if ur pretty imune from being sick. u should get it if you work in environment where there are lots of ppl in an enclosed environment with not a lot of circulating air, if you work with children, if you work in a healthcare setting, if you are prone to being sick. otherwise..you dont need it. you should be good if your immune is good then you'll be fine.

Well, aside from ther fact that if you are old enough to post in here you should be old enough to get a flu shot w/o complaint...there are several questions about this: Have you had pnuemonia or have strep throat a lot or lots of winter colds or ear infections or any life threatening issues we know nothing about?? ...if yes to any of these then you would be better off with a flu shot than not OR are you such a whiner and complainer and you miss so much school when nothing is really wrong with you that your mother cannot tell when you are really sick sooooo you get a flu shot(which is the one that gets my vote)

Actually, you cannot get the flu from the shot. They are injecting you with a dead form of the virus, so if you happen to get the flu after it is not from the shot, it would be a coincidence.
If she insists - -I would just get it, take Advil and make sure you rub your arm in the spot so you work the shot out of the one concentrated spot. (I just got one last week so I know the pain).

1) Flu shots should not hurt.
2) You can't get the flu from flu shots because they are made with dead viruses.
However, I really don't think you should be made to get one if you don't want one. Just explain to her that you don't feel that they are worth it for you. If you are not in a high-risk group there's really no need to get one.
