People often ask, as an idle question, whether the process of evolution began with the chicken or the egg. Was there an egg out of which the first chicken came, or did a chicken lay the first egg? I am in a position to say that the first thing created was the egg.
"When god created all the creatures of the earth, He summoned all the embyoes into the Great Hall. As they gathered, he saw that it was good. Before the Great Throne, he asked each and every creature what tool or change in their body did they want. Even the duckbilled playpus had a request. Many requested wings, some paws to dig with or teeth to chew with. The last remaining embryo was Man. Man didn't want anything, just the brains and knowledge to use tools to dig, to fly, to figure out ways of doing things better.
For Man unselfishness, God granted Man dominions over the land, the animals and creatures of the air....and completing his tasks, God knocked off for the weekend....to rest up for the Monday to come..."

The chicken or egg argument simple means: In the very beginning, did animals evolve first or come from an egg , or more specifically did We evolve from the basic ingredients found in the environment at that time or did we come from an egg, which is silly because You can't have an egg unless you have the mother, first!
Since likely, there were no chickens in the Very beginning, then the question using the animal named "Chicken" is more than likely a hypothetical one!
Most animals in the "egg" stage of life need to be cared for, more than likely, by there mothers.
The pregnant Alligator will drop her eggs in a hole, cover them up, but she will stay and protect them from predators!
The aurgument that was presented by "Handsom...whatever!" is incorect, even if the person that gave that quote knew anything, she did have something wrong!
There could have been no other animals exsisting in the very beginning!
Go Figure!

I can say with reasonable certainty, that there were eggs, before there were chickens.
Chickens evolved from another egg laying creature, that was not a chicken.
If you want to be real picky, by limiting this discussion to chicken eggs, I can still answer your question, but I will have to qualify it a bit.
What is the definition of a chicken egg?
If a chicken egg is an egg that was layed by a chicken, the chicken came first.
If, on the other hand, a chicken egg is an egg that produces a chicken, but needn't have been layed by a chicken, the egg came first.

It is obvious from current nature that the chicken came first. Whether believing in creation or evolution, the chicken had to come first. An egg by itself dies. If the egg came first, there would be no chickens.

Marilyn vos Savant gave this answer:
"I think the egg came first. A chicken is not defined by the type of egg it lays. (A horse is a horse even if it gives birth to a mule.) But an egg is defined by the kind of creature it contains. (An egg that contains a robin is a "robin" egg, no matter what laid it.) Therefore, if you believe in evolution, at some point a creature which was almost a chicken laid an egg that contained a chicken, and as an egg is defined by the kind of creature it contains, the egg came first."

It depends if you're talking about chicken eggs (otherwise reptile eggs came before any type of chicken!) And if you define a chicken egg as an egg that a chicken hatched out of, or one that was laid by a chicken.

I agree from a scientific standpoint the chicken would have had to have evolved first then the egg for reproduction. However there is the theory that the egg predates the chicken as many species are known to have laid eggs long before there was a chicken.

If we are talking about biblical terms, then the chicken would have to have been first. When Noah was gathering animals to the ark, did you see any BABIES? Of Course not...What do you think everybody did during the 40 days they were on that thing? THAT's When The Babies Came Along....

I think it was the egg. There were creatures similar to chickens, then, ony day, by some genetic mutation, a proto-shicken laid an egg that hatched the first real chicken.
