What are the advantages/disadvantages (except the fact that their costly)?
My friend said some lady went into Best Buy and claimed that all of a sudden her ipod had a sad face on it, somehow it broke.

So are they really worth it?

Really, unless you're like, super-trendy and wealthy, the ipod is no better than any other mp3 players. They all have different features, sure, but I have a Dell Digital DJ (20GB), and I love it. It's quite a bit less price wise, and all it does is plays songs, but if you just want one for music, you might as well save some cash and get an ipod alternative.

The ipod is a great music player device. It is pretty solid - I have never had one fail on me. This is not to say that they won't break.

In general, the iPod Nano will have a greater reliability because they do not have a hard-drive inside (they use flash memory). The draw back is that they can only store 8gb of music instead of 80gb on a regular iPod.

Personally, 8gb is all I need, and until the iPod has a larger screen, watching movies on my 2.5" ipod is really not an option - therefore, my prefered iPod is the Nano.

Good luck -- you will love it.
