Wouldnt she be considered a majority leader since she's a democrat and democrats are the majority now?

Not until Jan. when the Democrats take control. Right now the Republicans are still in power.

new congress doesn't take office until January 2007.

So, until then, Pelosi is the minority leader.

When Congress reconvenes after the holidays.... the dems will be in control of the new congress and she will be majority leader.
