That all depends on what you mean by "best". If you want a resort with a nice village, lots of shops and great restaurants, then it's probably Mt. Tremblant. If you're looking for a no-nonsense place with great terrain and a good deal, then it's definitely Jay Peak in Vermont. Last time I was there (which was a while ago), they took Canadian dollars on par with US, making it a great deal if you're coming from Canada. It's a fun mountain with pretty much no 'out of bounds' and great glades--they'll let you board the entire mountain. Also has one of those big aerial trams that goes bottom to top.

You can always head south and Check Out White Face (1980 Olympics) It's a good size for the east, but last time I was there it seems more like a skier Mt. But still worth checking out. One place that I always had a good time at was Jay Peak in Vt. Had a good vide when I was there last and seemed to have enough terrain to keep you happy. I have not been to Tremblant but it is suppose to be good.
Remember Vt. is not that far south as well and you have some great mts there ( I mentioned Jay, just because it was so North)
