Well I wouldn't put this to bad ram just yet. But you could possibly have a Virus running in the background or perhaps some other malware.

To see what kind of ram and how much you can put in your laptop I always use Crucial which I listed below you can look up your model number and get the perfect ram. Then go to a site like newegg. To perhaps find a deal on the Ram.

There is no real easy way to increase the speed of your processor in a laptop other then buying a new one.

I hope that helps!

Cheers!

Just to make sure... You're saying your PC is getting slower?... Processors don't slow down, as you know, so you might have an affordable solution around the corner, e.g. reinstalling your OS.

Obviously, you could increase your RAM to 512 Mb and this would help a lot. Your processor however is a tougher deal as it depends on your motherboard's capabilities. Look at the spec sheet of your laptop for details on the supported CPUs.

Since your laptop is slowing down, think about reinstalling Windows. If you haven't done so in the last 12-18 months, this might be a good time.

That's a good PC, so its should run well. However if you are running XP with Security Software it tends to slow down and hog resources. I recommend you upgrade your RAM to a 512 MB or 1 GB or install programs that remain as a process. But I believe that your PC is not cursed with a virus or spyware. Use Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware, and Yahoo Toolbar used to be good until they partnered with Norton just to confirm. After that you can use HijackTHis to repair the host files or explore the most extreme option and reinstall Windows.

Try tiger direct.com, however it is likely spyware, registry errors, etc that is slowing you down. Have a restore disk? See if there is an option for non destructive restore.

Also make sure you don't have 80 things running at start up
