If your Astro van is automatic transmission! You add fluid by the gauge dip. Add automatic transmission fluid ONLY.
If it's manual! you add by the plug that is located on the side of transmission half-way up, usually on the right side.
You need to remove by unscrewing that plug using a key usually 5/8. Add fluid until it pures out, screw back in the plug. Add manual transmission fluid ONLY.

You add transmission fluid through the dipstick tube. Go to an auto parts store and but a narrow funnel. The tube is the only place you can fill it on any car.
Except a stick shift. Then the fill hole will be on the side of the transmission on a rear wheel drive vehicle
