if I have a 413 area code in USA in the cell phone I am planning to buy - will it ring an incoming call to my USA number while I am travelling in India? Or I have to plug in a SIMM card while I am in India and pass on that Indian Cell Phone number to my USA collegues and friends and family in USA? Any suggestions? Thank you very much.

Check with your cellular company, but I don't know of any that offer tha kind of service. You will probably have to get a Satellite phone while traveling overseas. Your travel agent should be able to connect with one.

Why does it matter? They are not there to chat, items are being exchanged for money. The cashier is not entitled to any of the customers time or attention unless the cashier goes to the customers workplace to be served. This is how modern life is. People are not going to stop living their life and hang up on a conversation to please random strangers who want to say hi as they swipe their credit card. If you would have ignored the girl, there is a high chance you would be fired or get a warning. So I really doubt you would, or you would have got what you deserved for it. I would ignore the signs and do what I want. They are not law. I will not be treated like an idiot and given rules on politeness. Chances are I would not even notice the signs. However, I don't actually speak on phones in shops. But I think I should have the right to, if I want to. And I defend those who do. If it bothers people, it sounds like low self esteem and / or job dissatisfaction. I don't need to make small talk with random strangers to feel good about myself.
