Don't you think it would be a better idea if minor offenders were given an option to join the army rather than go to prison.
They would learn useful skills and also do some good for the society they have rejected. It would be good discipline for them too.
What do you think?

Quite honestly I agree that National Service should be brought back for both male and female, although the Services have apparently changed since I was in the Royal Navy. For example discipline is not so strict nowadays, however, even a little discipline would probably be better that most get from their parents nowadays. In my day, which wasn't so long ago i.e. 1974, self discipline was instilled in me and thankfully has remained with me throughout my life. Again, however, it depends on the individual, if they want to become better people then they will and I maintain that the Services do give them that opportunity to both become self disciplined and also to broaden their outlooks on life.

I think its a really bad idea, why do we want the scum protecting us?
I suggest we make the pay in Army, Navy and Air Force the same as a Doctors salary, then competition to join would be immense and you would get the cream of the crop and have a better army and a safer country.

They have done it in the past with some pretty good results, I think they should bring it back as a reform option. I don't think jail does a real good job reforming people. You know what they say, birds of a feather. Put them in a culture where people are actually trying to do something with their lives then this might influence them to do the same.

I think they need to bring back national service, I was in the R.A.F for 9 years and it did me good, perhaps it would work for all the little thugs on our streets who wear ASBO's like a badge of honour.
