Do look at this very carefully. "Enslavement by Europeans" is too narrow of a statement. If you study the history of the African slave trade you will find out that most of the people were captured in one way or another by other Africans and brought to centers where they were sold to Europeans. Using the term 'African' isn't correct here as neither is the term 'European.' Using those terms homogenizes different tribes and nationalities into race which makes the point of understanding the slave trade skewed.
The slave trade was about economics pure and simply. If victors in a tribal war can sell their captives to someone who would pay for them, why would they not engage in this activity? There is a long history of tribal warfare that is frequently not evaluated. This tribal warfare you see even to this day.
