Definitely. Not only for remembering, but for putting events in a more thoughtful perspective. Sometimes when one takes the time to write something it starts to take a more complex or deeper understanding for the author. Sometimes something that seems awful when experienced and recalled, doesn't really seem as bad when it is written down and may be looked upon in a different light by author, reader, and/or participants in the experience. No my photographic memory does the minutiae thingy bob the diary is a keep sake to compare at which points my life is more mad than others.

Yes, our memories work largely by linking with known details, so keeping a diary can aid the memory for even things not written in the diary.
It is the same with writing down dreams, if you write down the dream after waking, when you later re-read it you can recall the dream itself, even though the written word does not give all the impressions of the dream.

A diary can be so helpfull like when did i service the car last,oh i will just look it up in the diary.YEARS LATER try remembering when did i do this or that it makes a very good personnel reference book.

I have kept a diary all my life, sometimes I re-read it, and everything comes `rushing ` back to me. Yes it is a good idea. Many times I have had cause to be thankful for it.
