EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Nov. 13, 2006) -- Troy Aikman said Sunday he is "fifty-fifty" about whether or not he will end his retirement and play next season.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback called a report about a possible comeback "only speculation."

ESPN.com recently found out that Aikman told ESPN's Ron Jaworski that he would be interested in returning to the NFL next season but only if he could work with Joe Gibbs in Washington.

"I have said all along it's not something I have closed the door on," Aikman said. "If the right situation presented itself with the right offensive system, one that I believed in -- and Joe's is one I believe in -- then I would certainly consider it."

Aikman won three Super Bowl titles with the Cowboys. Only Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw have won as many. His 90 wins in the 1990s are the most by any quarterback in any decade. He also won his first seven playoff games and 10 of his first 11.

Since Troy Aikman is from a small town about 60 miles from where I live, he is a "hometown boy." But, he retired some years ago, and I believe he is not in the kind of shape he was in when he was playing. He's doing a great job for his hometown, for hospitalized children, etc. I'd much rather not see him get hurt, and he would, I'm afraid.

not to be nit-picky, but they say "Aikman won three Super Bowl titles with the Cowboys. Only Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw have won as many. " ---uh, Tom Brady anyone? had they said "won more" then yes, they would be right, but if this came from a trustworthy source, they would have atleast gotten that right

It sounds to me like he is fishing for a job. What I find wrong with it is that a younger, deserving QB might get bumped out of a job because a retiree wants to get out of the booth and get his way on to a team. Besides, Joe Gibbs has too much intelligence to bite. He's not that desperate. The Redskins will get better without Aikman.

Ya know, Aikman is was my favorite QB to watch when he played. But don't do it Mr. Aikman. You'll become like Brunell is now, (No offense, this happens after the body passes 35, it's not ready for football) too slow, too weak, too under prepared and not hoping about your future. You'd only think about two or three years. Not as a future QB for the team, but being the QB because you want to be. Sorry Troy, if you want to be involved with the game anymore, get into coaching. Help out younger players who want to be like you and train like you. You'd do the best there.

He retired because of multiple concussions, which cause permanent and irreparable brain damage. Also, the more concussions you suffer, the more susceptible you are to them in the future.
Needless to say, he's a moron for considering it. He's a capable analyst on his way to becoming an excellent one. Why ruin a good thing?
And a Cowboy ONLY wanting to play for the Redskins . . . what is the world coming to? What's next? Bill Parcells coaches the Giants & Cowboys, and the Patriots & Jets? I call shennanigans!

This has to definitely be fake.

I'd say that this is a bad joke as there are no mentions on any of the major networks or websites. Also, wouldn't the article have mentioned that Aikman was just recently inducted into the Hall of Fame?

He's already in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, as well as on Dallas' Ring of Honor, and he has three Super Bowl rings. What more could he possibly hope to gain by coming back? Especially considering he left because of concussion issues.
Hell, Steve Young might as well come back too.

Besides, he's about as god-like in Texas as is John Elway in Colorado. Why would he want to come back and tarnish his reputation by playing for the Cowboys' most HATED rival!? That'd be like Elway coming back to play with the Raiders, or Dan Marino with the Jets or Bills.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Some people just can't let go then they end up coming back and stinking up the place. All of a sudden a wonderful career has a big blemish at the end because they couldn't accept it was time to hang up the jersey. He was a great player but when it's time to retire- stay home.

Don't think it would work out too well for Troy if he returned. Also don't forget about a guy named Tom Brady when including those who have won 3 or more Super Bowls.

I think he was a top quarterback but he has been out of football too long to attempt a come-back. Weren't a couple of concussions a deciding factor in his retirement?
