How much caffeine, what kind, and what are the risks. The reason I ask is because for some reason in this pregnancy I have to drink Coca Cola. It's the only thing that can settle my stomach.

I never drank cola or any type of soft drinks before I was pregnant only water and now I drink about 1 can of coke almost everyday. I still mostly drink water just squeeze in a coke when my stomach feels uneasy! I've tried other types of soda but only coke works. Not sure why!

In most pregnancy books, and what my doctor said is you can have two full servings of caffine. Which is coffee, soda and caffinated tea. Also, it's recommended for no more than two servings of other caffine products (like chocolate). The main and highest risk is having the baby born addicted to caffine (like adults get). I know there are others like higher risks of some chemical imbalances in the brain and what not. But I know people who drank Mt Dew like is was going out of style until the day they delivered and it was fine. My friend drank about 6-8 cans of pepsi a day, and her daughter was fine....but I wonder if that is why the baby popped up with diabetes at the age of 4 and was SO hyper it made people crazy. Talk further with your doctor, but I guess it comes down to a desicion you make, like some women smoke during pregnancies, even knowing the dangers. Honestly, a couple cans a day (maybe back off the last month or couple months) and I would think it would be fine. Good Luck!

From what I know, you can have 300mg of Caffeine. That's the highest level in moderate use.

Drinking Coca Cola will not harm you or the baby. Unless used EXCESSIVELY and I'd imagine you'd get sick before you'd drank that much. But then I don't know your soda habits.

Caffeine’s Effects on the Developing Fetus
Caffeine easily passes from mother to fetus through the placenta. A developing fetus may have higher, sustained blood levels of caffeine than its mother because of immature metabolism. A few studies have shown that even moderate caffeine consumption affects fetal heart rate and movement patterns. A pregnant woman’s ability to metabolize caffeine slows as pregnancy progresses, so some of its effects may increase later in pregnancy.

Some studies have found that pregnant women who consumed large quantities of caffeine (five or more cups of coffee a day) were twice as likely to miscarry as those who consumed less, while fewer or no effects were seen at lower levels of caffeine consumption. A detailed analysis of caffeine's reported effects on pregnancy outcome can be found at motherisk.org.

Any doctor will tell you that most things they say to stay away from are usually okay if used in moderation. If you feel like you are drinking it to much try the caffeine free Coke. It tastes the same and should also help to settle your stomach.

As long as you're drinking enough water, one coke a day won't hurt you or the baby. There is a manageable amount of caffeine that you can consume daily. One soda is just fine.

My ob said that caffeine can cause miscarriage but it's unlikely. He said I can have 2 cups of coffee a day and 6 sodas a day.

I don't drink coffee but will drink 1 can of caffeine free coke a day. Have you tried caffeine coke? It works for me.

Too much of anything is bad. Caffeine is OK, just watch the amounts of it that you consume. I drank sodas with caffeine with all three of my pregnancies. The doctor was just worried about all the
" empty calories ". Best of luck to you. And stick with whatever works for you.

Does pepsi work? If it does they have caffine free pepsi that taste the exact same as pepsi! You really shouldnt drink caffine when your pregnant. But if you drink less then 300 mg a day it shouldnt hurt the baby. The side affects of caffeine are miscarriage, low birth weight, baby has faster heart rates, and faster breathing rates, and babies are crabbyer and don't sleep as much. Please only keep your caffeine intake low. and try caffine free pepsi! hope this helps!

It's unhealthy for the baby, I can't remember the possible risks, but I do remember that it's not good for you to have a lot of caffeine while you're pregnant. You shouldn't drink more than 1 cup per day.

If you consumed a large amount of caffeine before you got pregnant then cutting it out completely will cause headaches and stress on you and the baby. So, in moderation I would say its fine.
