If you are British you dont need to speak any other language than English. The NHS is for the British people and paid for by British peoples taxes. Therefore if you are entitled to use the NHS you should be able to read and speak English. If you cant do this then hard luck and go back home where your language is spoken.

Probably yes. This is a country with one official language - English.

Having said that, NHS staff time may well have been wasted in helping patients fill out forms they don't understand because of their lack of english, which distracts the staff from their primary role of providing healthcare, and may put lives at risk.

So it's not as clear cut and ridiculous as it first seems!

Absolutely... the money should be spent on cleaning the hospitals properly and a better spread of drugs.
If you go to other countries there is little or no chance of seeing a document in English, although I admit there is mot likeliehood of the staff speaking some english !

Drugs are expensive, the cost of translating the forms (this would be a one of cost) wouldn't even begin to cover the deficit (a £300 million overspend each year for the last 5 yrs)

Your question assumes that people who's first language is English can actual read. My best friend is a doctor (shes Belgian, English is her third language) she was tell me its commonly native English speakers who can't read the forms. By law she can't fill them in so she has to read it to them and get them to put a x for their signature.

If people choose to come and live in this country, they could have the courtesy to learn our language and they should be able to manage basic forms in English.
The money should go on essentials and we should not have to see our hospitals, our wards and our medical facilities being closed as they are around our way.

Or in teaching moronic, one-language-speaking Americans, another language.

You're just so freking ridiculous when you're in a foreign country demanding service, in English. You still think the world exists to serve you.

Pendejos.
