Good first question. I wonder this often myself. It's kind of crazy and also unfair. I have worn skirts, they are fun and feel great :-). Just on Halloween when of course, I'm dressed up as a girl or around the house when I'm alone. But to wear one out on a regular basis, nope, that's asking for too much attention. I see a lot of "one legged pants" lately which are od course skirts and also unisex skirts but they are all aimed at the goth crowd (guess I could go goth and then it'd be ok). To bad because I think there are some skirt styles that a guy could look ok in. Personally, I'd love to be sitting in a jean skirt right now and it would be great if drssing up would include maybe a black leather skirt and a pair of boots :-).
I like CHRYSTAL I's answer myself, it's almost as good of an explanation as I've seen.

Hmmm, Have one not so good pic of me in a skirt with boots, here I am...

Good question!

Jeans first came about in the 1870s by Levi Strauss, a 24 year old, who was opening a dry goods store in SF. Someone came in asking what he had to sell, to which he replied, canvas material. The old timer told him he should have brought "pants" to sell. Strauss constructed overalls as the first design for pants for miners. During that time, women were forbidden to wear pants, publicly. However, there is a link I've provided showcasing a book about women in pants around the 1850s. Another link talks of the religious implications of women wearing pants.

So you see, it was a controversial issue, that over time became "fashion" and it seems to be the "norm" for women to wear pants. If a person's culture allows them to wear skirts (i.e., kilts, etc.), then no one will call them names, of course. However, if a guy is to don traditional female dress fashions, he is usually thought of as a "cross dresser." If it is determined that he is not a cross dresser or transvestite, that's probably where he'll be called the derogatory names (cd/tv).

good question! i think it may be because girls have been 'developing' what they wear for years now. a while back if we were caught wearing pants we'd be complete weirdos, the world just isn't really ready for boys weraing skirts, maybe some day but not now.

Guess its just us been English that's all, in Scotland the men wear kilts and places like Figi the men wear sarongs as do the men in lots of those hot Pacific sea islands, honestly I just could not imagine my hubby in a skirt as much as his legs are better than mine.

Unless in Scotland where a lot of young men wear the kilt with pride. I guess it's just a matter of what is "the norm" in a particular area.

I don't know what Alfred E Newman is banging on about. I've been told by many women that I have great legs, some are jealous and jokingly call me a biatch.
