"Buying gifts together as an ex couple"? Do you know what "ex" means, it means you are no longer a "couple".
Gifts are given by two people when they are "together", not after they are "divorced". After five years you should certainly understand that.
Maybe you are having trouble "letting go" of your "ex", I can think of no other reason why you would even consider something so strange.
Children in their late teens are certainly old enough to comprehend that their parents are no longer "married". I think it's much more likely that you are asking this question for yourself than for any "children in their late teens".
Time to "move on" with your new spouses.

I see nothing wrong with divorced couples being on a friendly basis and keeping the welfare of their children first and foremost including the planning of Christmas gifts.

I see no reason why an Ex should buy Christmas gift for each other. But I can't really think of a reason why they shouldn't if they wanted to.
If you want to, buy one, but you are not obligated to do so. You are only truly responsible for the happiness of your own children. So no you are not obligated to purchase gift for his other children that are not your blood. However, If you wish to do so then, it speaks well of your generosity.

It all depends on how the current spouses feel about the ex-spouse. I Like my wifes ex so no big deal. It also depends on the nature of the gift. If your ex husband buys you lingre or a sexy outfit, new hubby might not like it!!!

Why not? What's the harm? I don't believe in Christmas however, gifts can be cool (I would not give them out just for Christmas though).
