The individual pieces are made to look as if they are cut from a large triangle, which is not true. If the overall figure on top was a triangle, the little triangles (red and green) would have the same angles (the shallower angles of each would be the same). This isn't the case, for the green triangle, the shallow angle is:
atan(2/5) = 21.8 degrees
and the red triangle has a shallow angle of:
atan(3/8) = 20.6 degrees
Thus it is an illusion, but a good one!

Is the slope of the hypotenuse of the red triangle the same as the slope of the dark green triangle?
Is either large shaper "really" a triangle?

(There are no glitches in plane geometry, just diagrams that fool the eye. Thats why you use algebra on a geometry diagram to solve the general problem and not a protractor and ruler to solve the specific problem.)

No glitch. When forms are irregular, positioning is everything.

The green and orange shapes appear identical but are actually not. They are complimentary shapes only when the thin side of one is placed on the thick side of the other. The bottom slide shows an attempt (failed) of putting the thin sides together.

As a demonstration, do you think you can fit alot of furniture in a 1,000 sqft room? What if you find out that the room's dimensions are 1 ft x 1000 ft??

I couldn't open your link, but the fact that the word "illusion" is part of the address tells me that it is not a glitch in geometry.

Interesting link. Wow! I'm stumped.

To the presumptious dork below: No, I answered first, and then I looked at the comments.
