Regardless of the way of movement, peregrine falcon is the fastest. If you are trying to ask the fastest by way of running then cheetah is the fastest.

Well the fastest running animals in the world is actually the tiger beetles (family: Cicindelidae)
and to correct one of the past answers, the fastest flying insects are not the Dragonflies, they are maybe the best flyers, but the fastest are actually the Tabaniidae, which is a family of flies which includes, the deer flies, and horse flies....so its hard to outrun those little biters.
I hope this tiger beetle part answers your question, for speed verses body length they are almost twice as fast as any cheetah.

Do you mean land air or sea, for land, it's us cause we have super fast cars, cycles, helos and planes,
if you mean thee fast and the furry, it'd be the Cheetah clocked at over 60 mph for a short burst of speed, by the way did you know the Cheetah is the only cat that CAN'T retract its claws?
If it is in the sea, it is probably the mako shark, wild tales exist on just how fast they are and since they are warm blooded fish, they have the ability to get blood to their extremities very quickly.
I wouldn't want to be in the water with a Mako, give me a Great White any day.
In the air, if not us, it would be a certain falcon who has the amazing ability to dive at super fast speeds and with all the G forces, not black out.

insects are part of the animal kindom. the fastest animal is a beetle I don't remember what type but I think "BEETLE" is correct. I saw it on TV. a special that showed the beetle running and being video taped. I think you can find it if you do a video search. but it said that it was fastest for body size.

The cheetah is the most fastest but I know a bird that runs whit 40/h..that is like humans can pass the fastest motorcycle...
