B. 9:40

48mph Divided by 60=.8 miles per minute
8:00 - 9:40 = 100 minutes x .8 = 80 miles


60 mph Divided by 60 = 1 mile per minute
8:20 - 9:40 = 80 minutes x 1 = 80 miles

first calculate the lead - 20 minutes at 48 mph
or 1/3 of an hour =________ miles

next calculate difference in speed 60 minus 48= _________mph

now calculate lead divided by speed = time to overtake
multiply answer times 60 minutes
and add to 8:20
