I was on depo when my husband and I decided to try to conceive. After researching I found that it could take up to 18 months before becoming fertile again. So I did not get the next shot and went on with life not expecting much to change. I was pregnant 3 months later. So I think it is one of those situations where if you are ready go for it but if you aren't sure then hold off. There is no way to know how quickly your body will respond to not being on birth control.

I started the depo shot the day I left the hospital with my daughter, then stopped taking it when she was a year old, it took a little over a year before I even started getting periods again and then it was another year after that before I got pregnant again, although I should mention I was not actively trying to get pregnant, just figured it would happen when it happened

I loved the depo shot at first, but when my husband and I tried to get pregnant, it took over a year.Even when I was first pregnant I did have a miscarriage. I am now the proud mother of two beautiful children. The cramps I had with my first period after the shot ( 5 months after the last shot) I was rushed to the hospital because of the cramps. All that old body fluid and things, its not natural to not have a cycle. Our cycles clean out our bodies which we need every month. God made us that way and so why should we stop it. The pills do a excellent job of preventing pregnacy, and I use the pill now after my second child.
If you cant get pregnant and its been a few months I would go see your OB/GYN and seek his/her advice.

Typically, depo stays in your system for 9-12 months after the shot. However, some women have gotten pregnant before this. I have had my last shot in Jan. 2006 and still waiting so be patient. To learn more and to get support, visit www.newbabyjubilee.com

I've only taken one shot, when I first started BC two and half years ago. Once I read up on it, I never took the shot again. I constantly bled the three months it was affective (not heavy, but VERY annoying). A lot of my research on it has lead to a lot of women who've only taken two shots that had trouble conceiving. Some women it took a few years to conceive again. I think the way it "reschedule's" you're body really messes things up. I would stick to birth control pills or other methods that keep your period regular (every 28 days). My husband and I haven't tried to conceive yet but I'm hoping I don't have any problem. Best of luck!

"Most women return to their normal periods and normal fertility four to six months after the last Depo Provera injection."
