I've been reading some answers saying that they've become famous only because of the World Cup 2006?
How well are they known?

Zidane is more famous becuase he's older.
Moreover he played in France, Italy and Spain.
Cannavaro and Buffon never left Italy because they love Italy and like to play there.

some people on this site must live very confined lives. If you are a football fan then that's exactly what you should be. Ignorance of someones existence because they don't play in your team or for your country is no excuse. BUFFON has always been recognised as one of the worlds great keepers and seems to have been around forever. As for CANNAVARO i first saw him play against NORTHERN IRELAND in the late nineties(my country) so your answer both internationally recognised by football fans form the late nineties.

Buffon became really famous a couple of years b4 the 2006 WC , however Cannavaro became damn famous after the WC, he was known as a good defender b4, but after he joined Juve he became more famous n after the WC , many of my frnds not knowing him now know him

Thats totally untrue.. they played previous World Cup's and are known for being amazingly talented

cannavaro now plays in real madrid, but he has played in juventus and inter.....he's the best!!!!
buffon now plays in juventus, but he became famous more before the fifa world cup!!!

They werent known much before the world cup to the world.Italians knew them , but not others except some diehard football fans.Before the world cup , they didnt have even one-fourth of Zizou's fame.This is the truth.
