If you have permanent indigestion, I would suggest you need to see your GP. Whilst there is a faint possibility that it has something to do with the food you're eating, more probably you have a stomach complaint that needs resolving.

Sounds like your system is too acidic ... someone suggested drinking milk (which is alkaline) ... but it's not always convenient or handy ... plus, if U R calorie conscious, it adds more calories to your diet.
Another person suggested drinking more water. This is a good idea, but there is something even better ... if you have a good health food store or vitamin shop, they might carry Catalyst Activated Water.
This is a liquid you add to Distilled Water, and it makes the water 'wetter', so it can go in deeper to reach cells that normal water molocules can't reach.
But the main benefits are: It neutralizes the body's PH so it is not too acidic, it flushes out toxins and absorbs more of the very nutrition you consume. It also keeps your thymus healthy, which produces your immune mechanisms.
You don't have to drink a lot everyday ... just a few ounces before you eat or with vitamins.
I've been drinking it since '83 and have put 100's of people on it.
One fellow who had an ulcer got instant relief, and didn't need his medication anymore.
Another with acid reflux was also relieved.
I could go on & on ...
It's not expensive ... and I'm sure this will help you immensely.
You need to drink water everyday ... so why not include some of this special water? You will enjoy it's benefits in a very short time!

if you have done the lifestyle stuff (raising the head of your bed a few inches, wear loose fitting clothing, eating a healthy diet, limit caffiene, etc), and you have tried the OTC antihistamines like zantac, and the OTC antacids like tums, you may need to try the prescription medicines like protonix, prevacid, nexium, etc. prilosec is just like them, and you can by a small supply over the counter to see if it helps. medicines like these take up to 1 week to work fully, so at least try it that long. you also have to take it every day regardless of symptoms (about 30 minutes before breakfast is best). if you have talked with your doctor about these medications, and still no help, he may try increasing the dose. what i would advise first and formost though is see a doctor, because sometimes medications for your stomach can disguise worse problems like stomach ulcers. your doctor can test for ulcers pretty easily. hope this helps. one last thing, when having stomach trouble don't eat peppermints (they allow for easier reflux), and milk isn't good for everybody with stomach problems either, it has lactic acid in it.

Try changing your diet. I used to permanently suffer from indigestion, but it was down to a unhealthy diet and too much cider.

Prilosec OTC works great for me and several of my friends. I've used Zantac and Tagamet in the past, and liked Tagamet, but it was nowhere near as effective as the Prilosec. Also, don't self diagnose too much- it's always good to see a doctor!

It sounds like you have GERD. I take Prilosec OTC once a day and can eat almost anything now without it bothering me. It took several days before the meds started working though.
See link below. I suggest before trying to self-medicate that you see your Doctor and get a diagnosis.

I have found Zantacs work me for. When I eat certain foods that are hot or real rich { Mexican, tacos, burritos, etc...} I suffer badly. So I take a Zantac and feel a lot better.
