I think having a female, or at the very least a minority president would bring this country in the right direction socially. There definitely are many qualified candidates that aren't protestant white men who I think could lead our country well.
The thing is, even though we think our country is open-minded enough to vote based on merit and for the best person for the job, there is a huge block of people who will only support somebody who is of a certain religion, ethnicity or gender. Thankfully these people are dying off, or being overshadowed by the growing number of more liberal-minded people.

There is nothing to prevent them from being president. The constitution says you have to be 35, born in the US and have lived the previous 14 years in the US. It doesn't say you have to be a man. It's strictly up to the voters to pick who they want.
The UK, Pakistan, India, Israel, Bangladesh, Germany and others have had a woman as head of their government. There is no reason why the US can't have a woman president.

Days of women's functions of taking care of home and children are all but over. Today women have made their forays in to space travel. There is not a field where women have not excelled themselves. If a lady has the requisite education, experience and she has the necessary grooming there is no reason why she can not excel as a President of a country.

Certainly providing she qualified for the job. The two who are thinking of running for 2008 don't fit that catagory what so ever. One is a wanna bee who had a taste of the white house and wants to go back and is nothing but a self-serving b***h who doesn't give a damn about anyone but herself. The other doesn't have the qualifications one way or the other. Lis Dole was the only one so far who had the qualifications but politicians held her back from running.

I'm not sure that gender even has a place in the equation. No doubt it does, largely because of what we've been taught about gender roles and stereotypes since birth, but as far as "should", I never thought that was still a question.

Yes, I don't see what the big deal is. Obviouslly the men can't handle the job and they keep making a bigger mess of it. It makes since to put a women in charge and have her clean up the mess the last few presidents have made.

Women are not excluded from being president and, sooner or later, a woman will be president.

They are already allowed to be President. The problem is getting one elected. We'll see it in our lifetimes, no worries. It may be Hillary, but there's a lot that can happen in two years.

Well, people do because... they are women. Like myself. However, I try not to be biased because of it. The one and only thing that bothers me about it is that the Presidents main job is to be Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces. I find a man to be better fit for this. Not to mention that if there is a woman Commander and Chief, this will begin a new era of females having to register for selective service at 18 just like the males.
But if the people vote for it, so be it.
