I got a touch lamp at an auction, and last night i wanted to shut it off but i couldnt reach it so i used the remote and it didnt work...anyways long story short...it doesnt work with objects not even fingernails...how does it work....why does it work when ur skin touches it?

Touch lamps work off of capacitance sensing. when you touch it with your body you add capacitance (the ability to store electrical energy) to the circuit. If you touched it with a metal rod it would work, wood.. nope.. plastic.. nope.. needs to be something conductive
