athulii, hi!

maybe you're being a bit too harsh on the Indian male! you must remember that peeing in public places is a law that has to be enforced for it to be in effect.

it's a common problem in all countries! not just India! see, once basic law & order is in place, you can expect the police to enforce such rules... you must also keep in mind that the Government has a role to play:

1. Public Toilets : the average Indian has almost no access to a decent urinal or bathroom... a lot of them don't even have one at home, let alone in public spaces...
2. Education : gandhi was an avid advocate of hygiene and toilet-practices education... but the Government has sidelined it... you can't blame them too much for it... as they have many other pressing issues too. flicking out one's penis in a public place isn't really a shame... and here's why:
3. Society : from the youngest age, children are allowed by their parents to pee in public... and any time a boy wants to pee, his parents will just unzip him and let him relieve himself in public. and society does not think it's bad...
4. Parallel Hygiene : this applies to all the other factors, like spitting, blowing noses in public, and throwing garbage...

everything has to be curbed together... but the question is: what are you and i doing to effect the change? are you talking to your friends and ensuring your own relatives and children will not be allowed to pee on the roads? am i forcing my friends to use a rest-room instead of someone's compound wall?

let the change start with us... and believe you me, things are much better in India than in many other places!

Yes, the fear of getting caught
for creating a nuisance in a public
place.

In India, it is a custom, out of non
availability of public toilets
all over the places.

Even if there are enough toilets
available, the Indians find it
comfortable to pee at any open place.

Indians are basically not conscious
about health and hygine.

The Government is also not willing to
spend money for public toilets.

The members of the Government
are also illeterate and they also
pee around, when they are alone.

Another important fact is about 85%
of the population have no private
toilets in their homes.

It is difficult to believe. If you travel
in a train, you can see people sitting
in open spaces and passing stool
and creating filth all around.

Even in cities like Agra, 55% of
the population sit on railway tracks
and small open enclosures, pass
stool. This is the most filthy place
in the entire world.

Shamelessly, Males, females in groups sit along
, talk and pass stool as if they are
in a club. This is a great hobby for
them to discuss various things of
yesterday.

This is a thing that is very shameful, and painful .

India will put a man on the moon soon but it just does not have enough public toilets or for that matter private toilets. Same is the case with garbage cans.

Your observation is correct but even women have to relieve themselves and they do. Only thing about them is their anatomy and the dress(sary, gagera) they just pretend to seat down and in few minutes are gone.

As the saying goes "do in the Rome as the Roman do". I am glad that they are not doing what is normal in India, and throwing rappers every where and peeing all over, when they are in different cultures.

Even in our culture I have seen people relieving, this is because they have to and some time they may have a condition so they just have to go.

You may have seen it in the parks. We do have Porta-Poty in the parks but natures call must be answered some just cannot wait.

My friend and her mother went to India over the summer. The comment about men peeing in the streets was in their journal EVERY day. They could not get over how many men were doing it where ever they went.

I've had plenty of neighbors over the years who think it's just peachy to pee in their yard - which I can see clearly from my dining room.

It had gotten to the point where I wanted to find out how to say "your **** is small and sad" in their native language.

Because we can Honey! No, seriously we do not have any civic sense. I personally think this has to be taught by parents and at school so as to develop this sense. Many foreighers have commented on this.
