Actually the mint says it is made of bronze. It is copper colored, but they are all that way, so you have one of 4,674,292,426 minted that year just at the Philadelphia mint by itself not counting how may they made at the Denver mint. If it looks like a nickel someone outside the mint fooled with it. A cent can't be minted on a nickel blank, it is to large to fit into the cent collar.
