Lympathic System has three primary functions in human body.
1.Draining excess interstitial fluid.
Lympathic vessels drain excess interstitial fluid from tissue spaces and return it back to the blood.
2.Transporting dietary lipids.
Lympathic vessels transport lipids and lipid-soluble vitamins(A,D,E and K) absorbed by the gastrointerstinal tract to the blood.
3.Carring out immune responses.
Lympathic tissue initiates higly specific responces directed against particular microbes or abnormal cells.T cells and B cells, aided by marcophages, recognize foreign cells, microbes, toxins, and cancer cells and respond to them in two basoc ways:
A) In cell-mediated immune response, T cells destroythe intruders by causing them to rurpture or by releaseing cytotoxic(cell-killing) substances.
B)In antibody-mediated immune responses, B cells differentiate into plasma cells that protect us against disease by producing antibodies, proteins that combine with and cause distruction of specific foreign substances.
Since you didnt ask for more, that's all i can gave you.Hope this helps you.(^^o)

It removes toxins and waste material from your blood stream. If you get a bruise, the stuff that takes it away is the lymph.

Have a look at the link. It provides a good general overview of the lymphatic system and its purpose. You will need to use your scroll button to see all the info.
