Well you need to follow your heart. Im in college right now to be a travel agent and i dont want to do that at all. My passion in life is interior decorating, i just wanted to go to college and have some kind of degree to fall back on, and although its good to have something to fall back on, i really regret not going to school for interior design. Sure being a doctor or a lawyer will really rake in the dough, if your not happy and you wake up everyday and hate your job, you will spend the rest of your life regreting not following your dreams. You only have one life so why not spend it doing what makes you happy and what you are good at. Your parents might not like the idea of you being a dancer but you have to do what makes you happy, they will come around eventually, they are just trying to protect you from hardships with money by pushing you towards those other careers. Anyway i hope everything works out for you.

You have got two choices in life...pleasing someone else or pleasing yourself. If pleasing someone else makes you do things you don't want to do...I suggest that you try and talk to your parents about this. The future might turn out good for you if you end up succeeding in being a good lawyer or a doctor, earning a sufficient paycheck and having the house you dreamed of...after all, your parents only want what's best for you.

But what if it turns out to be a total failure? Or maybe you accomplish your parents' dream but end up feeling depressed just because you wanted to be a dancer when you were young....

I don't want you to see the only bad side of this but think about this. Do what feels right for you and most of all do what will always make you feel happy.

Always follow your dream, if dancing iz you passion, go for it, I'm sure your parents will understand. If someone wants to be something soo bad, they'll do their best to reach thier goalz.u really can't let anyone choose your future, if becoming a lawyer or doctor doeznt interest you, why would u live your life working az one? College iz something & to actually "work" & earn a living doing something are two different thingz, if you see yourself living an unhappy life going to a hospital or office everyday, then don't do it.Parents will love and support thier child in thier dreamz, try to talk to them, they only want you to be happy, so tell them being a dancer iz what u really wanna be...
Ummmmm..... BUT, if ur talkin' bout exotic dancing, then take your parentz advice & be a doctor r'somethin' else!! I watch too many Jerry Springer, so my mind iz messed up bout this dancing thing! lol ... Although u can do both, dancing iznt really a JOB, it'zmore of a hobby ,, so there wont be any harm in goin to college, graduating, then getting a job while working on your passion.. alot of people do this & it workz perfectly .. ull get the best of both worldz this way ..

Have a conversation with your parents explaining to them what you want to do...

I would also advice you to have a back up plan in case your dancing career doesn't work out they way u want it to...

You could get still pursue your college degree and then persue your dancing career and/or look for schools that offer dancing as either a major or a minor...

But whatever you decision you make, think about your options...Talk to professional dancers and see what they did for them to get to the level they are now...

one more thing Honey is a movie about the struggles this girl went through to become a dancer

If your parents are willing to send you to a good university so that you can become a doctor or lawyer, why not go along with it? In the meantime you can be a dancer anyway.

How old are you?

I would pursue both a professional degree and dancing at the same time until you are at least 20.

If you are 20 years old or older, go with what you know.

Just realize, as far as economics go, you are likely to make substantially less money as a dancer than a professional unless you are working at a gentlemans club.

Sweetie, we are all good at something we do. Dancing is a great sport. Maybe your parents just want you to go to college. You can go to college for dancing you know? Try to see what exactly your parents want from you. Do they really want you to be a doctor? or just want you to get a great education? You can go to a Dance University and still earn a great degree in social services or something. You can earn a degree to fall back on just in case your dancing career doesn't turn out the way you hoped.
Good Luck

Look, my nephew followed his dads dream, he graduated from Berkley with honors then went on to med school, a total of 13 yrs of school, he came home to begin internship and had a nervous break down, everyone he confided in about not wanting to be a doctor reacted wrong toward him, he came to see me and I flat out told him that he neede to follow his own dream and if that meant his dad disowning him then that's on his dad, to day my nephew is in hospital business as a ceo and has a 2nd career as a lead real estae agent, he is newly married and recently became a dad himself. His own dad realizes how happy he is and also realizes that, that is all that matters...

No reason you can't pursue both. Dancing or any of the arts is very tough to break into. You need talent and luck. Wouldn't it be great to have a solid career to fall back on. All it takes is effort and you can do it.
