Well i live in India where a lot of candle lighting is religious in nature. Scented candles rules the roost and ofcourse, scented candles burn faster due to the following reasons :
1. scents are alcoholic in nature thereby accelerating the burning process.
2. Scened candles means something other than wax has been added and hence the fuel to burn ( wax) is a bit lower than a normal candle.
3.It is in the benefit of scented candle makers that they burn fast so that you run to buy another one

I don't know about a scientific reason, but at my house, the scented ones burn much faster than the regular kind. Not sure why though.

I have both ....... candles are extra common and that i take advantage of them extra many cases ........ yet I favor burning scented oils ........ they have a extra perfect heady scent and very last more, quite for those lengthy romantic evenings ....... = )
