Neither are particularly taboo, but it is more common. This is because women crave the social status and reassurance that marriage confers.
Men can take it or leave it most of the time - we only do it to reassure the women.

I've wondered this myself a lot. I think the common stereotype is that gay men are promiscuous and incapable of having a committed relationship. I think this is a really BAD misconception of gay men. I think the thing that triggers is this is because men's sex drive is much higher than a woman's usually. So men tend to sleep around a little more when not in a relationship. At least that's my opinion....which could be wrong. There are, however, PLENTY of gay men who have been in committed relationships for years and years. I think the whole "taboo" thing is very unfair!

It is as taboo as male and male. I don't have a word or peep to say fi gay couples want to vote to institute civil unions (contracts of matramony of such issued by the state) but as far as marriage goes,t hey need to stay away from it. If "marriage" for gays is legalized by the government then pastors and such can be fined for discrimination for not marrying gay couples. Which is WRONG becuase all this fuss from the "left" about seperation of church and state is hypocritical if these same folks don't take a stand to keep religious and state matters seperate concerning marriage (religious term)

B/c for some reason straight guys are turned on by 2 women but who wants to think about some guy shoving his you know what up another guys bootie? I"m a straight female and I don't want to see that. Its just that women's bodies are beautiful and mens well,, they just aren't. So when 2 women marry its not looked at as bad. Its stupid either way 2 people in love should be able to get married. I can't believe we are still discussing this in the year 2006! Its just ridiculous!

I was going to say the exact same thing as the first answer.
Men are in power and some men think lesbians are hot, but they are terrified of male to male relationships (probably because they have some of those urges but don't want to admit it).

In my opinion it is probably because woman are generally more open to homosexuality then men, so they don't make a big deal. Heterosexual men get all hung up on male gays most likely because they feel it's threatening to their masculinity, whereas imagining lesbians is almost like every man's fantasy.

We suppose to look up to men and men are supposed to be powelful & superior(LOL)so it's considered a disgrace when 2 males marry.
Females marriages are more accepted for that reason.

As sex objects, two of us together is even more of a fantesy. MEN rule baby and they want to see hot chicks get it on.
But Butch and unattractive lesbians are still hated.
