A hamster is a cute little rodent that has cheek pouch's where they gather there food and carry it to there den.
They make great pets, males being the better of the sex's for a pet....they are nocturnal, so if you like to sleep at night get used to the sound of there wheel which they have to have or go nuts lol! They look nothing like a mouse or a rat. Though if your hamster gets lost in your home you are sure not to have a mouse problem, the standard hamster will kill all mice in "it's" house and one can even train a hamster to go out of it's cage at night only to return to the cage in the morning (I would train males to do this, one at a time).
Standard Hamsters are loners while the dwarf or Russian or mini are social.
They came into America for a new pet for children. A book I have I think it is from 1959, said that Teddy Roosevelt liked them so much he named them Teddy Bear hamsters.
Then the "new" hamsters came here, the dwarf or mini. These look like the standards but are different socially. Little ones also develop nasty tumors when older, making them very mean.
The fur of the hamster I read somewhere is used for coat liners. They are also fed to snakes. Hamsters are very high in fat content...
There is even a newer Hamster who came into the states not long ago that is as big as a kitten, but rumor has it there temperament is nasty......
I also know I can not own them. I bred these critters for years (good ten years) and If I have one, 100 more are soon to follow.....

It is a small furry rodent with a short stubby tail. They have pouches in their cheeks to store food. They are very hyper and bite a lot. Rats make much better pets.

Its a rodent. Don't get one. They're highly annoying loud creatures that bite and seem to just take things for granted. They expect everything to be given to them! And they're fat and get disease!!!
As you can tell I hate hamsters. But if you're really interested.. just go to PetSmart... hmm thats a question right in itself!

It's a small rat looking animal that you put in the bottom of your laundry hamper to keep it smelling fresh. It lives off sweat and dirt from your socks.

It's a small rodent, that people often have as pets.
