There are two brake lining sensors, one for the front brakes and one for the rear brakes. (BMW assumes the front and rears wear equally, left and right) If the message is on, it indicates you have applied a ground to that circuit, which normally happens when the pad material has worn away to where the embedded contact in the lining contacts the rotor. Since you did not indicate if you had done fronts or rears, check the ones you did not do and see if they are worn and contacting the sensor contact. If good, then check the condition of the sensor wire and make sure no bare spots are grounding out, it is fully seated, and that there are no anomalies in the connectors. Re-seat things. There is no circuit button to reset, if the circuit is good, you get no message.

The car is equipped with only two brake sensors: right rear and left front. Common problems are:
1) low brake linings resulting in the sensor grounding to the rotors.
2) improperly routed sensor grounding on the inside of the rim or some other place.
3) faulty sensor.

You didn't mention if the car is an e30 or e36. Many e30 325s had faulty cluster panels (mother boards) which would result in the brake lining light illuminating all the time.

*Well, if you know that all the monitored linings are good, then you have to start checking backward in the monitor system.

I have heard of this happening before, but I cant remember exactly what the owner found.

It may be as simple as a short circuit in the sensor line, but could
go all the way to the appropriatte computer control circuit.

You could try resetting the computer circuit and see if it holds.
Or get a manual with a schematic and trace out the problem.
OR just disable the light and fly by wire.

On all four wheels, check that the pickup wires (from brake pad to connector) are routed correctly, check for metal filings/dust buildup (hose 'em down with a couple of cans of brake cleaner), disconnect and tape-off the sensors at each wheel one at at time to find the wheel that may be causing the problem (note!: be sure that they are the brake lining connectors and not the ABS sensors!!)

check to see if it is the rear sensor[right side] some times the sensor panal is the actual problem.
