Mosquitoes prefer warm-blooded animals not just horses. The warmth is the main attractive feature for the mosquitoes. Another reason is that because horses skin is not covered with fur, feather, thick hair thus there is an easy access for the mosquitoes to suck blood. Other animals which attract mosquito includes cattles, carabao, pigs and many others. Humans also attract mosquito.

There are remedies to protect horses from mosquitoes such as repellants and mosquito proof horse clothing.♥

From CNN.com:

"People can attract mosquitoes from 40 miles away simply by breathing. When a person exhales, their carbon dioxide and other odors mix to produce a plume that travels through the air. The plume acts like a dinner bell to mosquitoes, letting them know a juicy meal is within range. "

Since horses also breathe (and expel even more carbon dioxide than we do!), they will also attract them.
