my thermostat is in the living room, but I want it to be able to sense the temperature in the master bedroom because I close all the vents except for the master. This is to save energy in a very poorly insulated house.

If you really want to do this, Carrier/Bryant makes a wireless thermostat. You can get 2 of them to work on 1 receiver mounted at the furnace/air handler. You can then switch between the 2 stats. Or you can actually use only 1 stat if you want and just carry it where you are and set it on a table.
Otherwise, you will have to get a wire to the master bedroom and have a switch to switch between the 2 stats.

You will have to run the wires to where the first tstat is and disconnect that tstat wires from the control circuit. A lot of work

adding one is not the solution. you could move it to the bedroom, or just adjust it to a setting that gives you the temp you want in the BR
