no, there not 'always' late. besides guessing (that's what it is...GUESSING) a baby's due date is not an accurate science...the baby will come when it's good and ready. i doubt seriously that your doc would let you go over due more than a week! babies aren't "late"....they don't get the "schedule" let nature take it's course...as much as it SUCKS at the end..(I've been there twice!).
my son...was born two days after my due date in 6 1/2 hours of labor. my daughter was born 3 weeks early (due to my gestational diabetes), after 13 1/2 hours of labor. NOTHING is textbook when it comes to babies. everything about it is different from person to person.

Due dates are not a science and are only an estimate. A week before is not early and a week late is not really late. Many Dr's only give a range within 3 weeks now because gestation can be anywhere from 37 weeks to 42 weeks because the actual date of conception is usually not known. The average baby spends 38 weeks in the womb but since most estimated dates are calculated from the last menstrual period, it ends up being 40 weeks.

So, you have between 5 weeks and 10 weeks to be full term.

First babies are not always late. My first came 8 days early and my second was 4 weeks and 2 days early. My advise would be to just take it easy and get rested up cause labor is a very tiring thing and can last for hours. Pamper yourself while you still can cause after the baby is born you don't have the time to.

Everyone is different. I've never heard that 1st babies are always late, but that most 1st labors are long. Most likely you'll follow a similar pattern to your mother so if she was early with you, you'll probably have yours early. My 1st baby was born 3 days before my due date and came fast. 2nd was 2 weeks early and I'm hoping #3 will be early, too. You never can tell!! Hang in there another 6 weeks...YOU CAN DO IT!!!! Congrats on #1!!

Relax and sleep as much as possible...

Babies come when they are ready. I have heard that first-timers can be late, because the body has never been in labor/given birth before, but I wouldn't count on it. My first was 2 1/2 weeks early and my other 3 were right on time...you just never know.

good luck!

not true... 1st babies can be a good guide for future children. but for your own knowledge most hospitals will deliver your child at thirty five weeks. before that you get a trip to a NICU. if u are late though a doctor will ,or could, induce. be mindful the drug potocin, which is used too start contractions, is very painful... more so than natural birth. most women opt for drugs and an epidural in this situation

This is the long haul now. I would rest and get everything ready for your little one. Maybe papmper yourself a little. You wont get much time for you in a few short weeks. Maybe get a pedicure or a makeover. There is no way to be sure when your baby will come. I have heard that 1st babies tend to be later, but it is up to the baby! Good luck!

That's a myth. I was betting on that being the case so that my son and I would have the same birthday! His due date was one week before my birthday, so I hoped he'd be 1 week late.

Actaully, my wife went into labor one week early! So, his birthday is two weeks before mine...Too bad the myth isn't always true...

Well I was late too on my first pregnacy too. I was a week late and my best advice is to be more active by walking more. Also the best thing to have more contact with your partner. It also helps with the delivery. Good Luck!
