well some of the best things that work for me are:
hot tea/lemon(make sure its a caffeinated tea)
-the amount of caffeine in tea gently eases cramps
go for a walk
-the movement will loosen some of the tension in your abdomen
heating pad/hot shower/hot bath
-always a must
and even though you are trying to do the natural thing i would advise some ibuprofen.
do all these and you should be cramp free within an hour

Also called as Dysmenorrhea in medical jargon - are a chemical problem. Each month, the lining of a women's uterus produces chemicals called prostaglandins, which help the uterine muscles contract and expel tissue and fluids during menstruation.High levels of prostaglandins cause uterine muscle contractions, or cramps.
So take your vitamins & minarals.
Cut coffee.
Cut alcohol.
Don't do diuretics.
Try acupressure
Take a brisk walk daily.
Take a minaral bath.
Do a YOGA stretch
Take a pill Aspirin
Make Love.
Make love.

The best natural way is to either put a heating pad on your stomach for about half an hour or take a hot bath. I prefer the heating pad option.

I was always very small, so when my period came, I dreaded the cramps as they were at times unbearable. But I took Midol or Asprin. It's the only way to REALLY knock out cramps. But heating pads do help. Make sure to drink lots of water while on your period.

i think the best thing is to get up and move around. it's rough at first but loosening your muscles helps, and a lot of the time whatever you are doing causes just enough distraction to take your mind of things.
the other suggestions on here are great too.

I take three pamprin, it's a wonder drug, but not natural...cramps are caused by dialating...so you really need a pain reliever or a heating pad if you are really against taking pills
