Are you kidding?
This is the way I see it: There were 300,000 deaths right after Americans dropped those nukes. If those bombs hadn't been dropped Japanese casualties would be numbered by millions, and American casualties by hundreds of thousands.
So by doing what was done - Americans actually saved lives, and changed a whole Japanese nation to better.
Prove me wrong.

Different context.
Japan was in a suicidal mode, and I'm not just talking about the Kamikazes. The estimate was that more than 5 million Japaneese, and perhaps half a million Americans were going to perish in an invasion of mainland Japan.
The most important note is that the US ordered one million purple hearts for that invasion. Pat Tillman received one of those purple hearts when he was killed in action in Afghanistan! We still haven't used that supply, and we have fought four major wars!
Moreover, Tokyo had far more casualties from firebombings. Yes, the use will always be questioned, but the fact is, using them actually saved millions of lives. That is why 99% of Historians praise the action, instead of condemning it.

Should the USA have been charged with war crimes? Of course not. It's a war and while I think it's sad that so many people die in Japan, they were our enemies. They surrendered and we finally could live in prosperity and bring our troops home. Remember that even Bush hails Truman and FDR as great presidents and has reprimanded democrats of today for not being as tough as they were for example, on Iraq.

First of all, the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki took place in 1945. Second, I somehow doubt that your avatar is really a picture of you.

To end WW2 and prevent even more American soldiers form dieyng. To test the new weapon.
I don't believe they should be prosecuted for war crimes.
It was a difficult and horrible event but the alternative would have if possible even worse and certainly to the American army

I thought it was the United States as a whole that was involved in the war....
But that aside, attacking civilians during war time can be considered war crimes. However, since the person who gave the orders, and the people who dropped the bombs, are all dead -- it's a moot question.

actually that bombing saved lives it put an end to the war that was soon to be washing up on the shore of japan itself if the Japanese Had stuck to their guns of fighting to the last man there would have been hundreds of thousands more dead than the bombs killed. we put an end to a war that japan started.and saved countless Japanese and American lives.

At the time, it was the best solution. Had we not dropped those bombs, many more people, American and Japanese, would have been "massacred". It was the lesser of two evils.
