I know that it can protect people from addictions, because with this gene they do not experience the same levels of pleasure, but what else can this specific gene do. Im just curious because I think I have this gene as I have never been able to be or get addicted to anything. Thanks

yeah I'm pretty sure I've got that gene too, in fact I can see it turning up a fair bit in one side of my extended family - it also correlates with lower novelty seeking behaviour according to those addiction studies. It makes sense cos I think I'm on a fairly even keel, I don't need extra stimulation like most people seem to need. A big positive to this is the amount of work you can get done when you sit down and do it. I can sit on a microscope for long after most people I know. I used to be a competitive swimmer too and found the training no problem. And of course, there's not much danger of dying of lung cancer.
