You know this was a fight at our house. My husband was very passive aggressive about me going back to school. He would be verbally supportive, but then do things to sabotage my schooling. Just recently I told him I was going to go back to school with or with out his support, and more specifically with or with out him. I'm 29 (still married) and just really starting my under-grad.
You are never too old for school. True, I am one of the older people in my classes, but I'm not the oldest. There is a woman in my English 101 class that started college with her daughter. In my french class there was a 60yr old woman. Knowledge and learning is for everyone at anytime.
Her husband is just being an A*s, just like mine was.

That is really mean. Maybe he is afraid she will make better income than him, then she will leave him. The man wants to be in control and dominant. I find that really ridiculous because a man should support their wife or significant other through education. I feel really sorry for your aunt.

My hubby totally supports it. I'm 29 and won't be done with this degree until I'm about 33 or 34. And he knows after we get our four kids through college I want to go back and do what I dream of doing. The degree I'm doing now just supplements the job I have now.

I think it is a bunch of shi* that he will not support her. What a jerk! I hope this doesn't stop her from pursuing her PhD. I think it is great that she is furthering herself! I know my husband would support me in whatever I decide to do. He needs to wake up and smell the coffee!

He's an a ss clown! Education should always be supported, even if it is not for a career move.

Your uncle is an a$$. He probably feels threatened by her accomplishments which is pathetic. My hubby has been encouraging me to go back and finish my degree. Once we pay off a couple bills, I probably will.

Sounds like he's the one who is insecure and jealous that she would do it and not him! He's trying to make it hard on her. He is not very supportive and when she moves on she will be around better men, he hates that!
