TRUST ME you will know! Hiccups are more rhytmic whereas kicking is more random.
My daughter used to get the hiccups all the time while in utero. It was worse after she turned and she was upside down. She had them for 20 min once, it is a strange sensation.
P.S. She's 7 now and still gets the hiccups often and for no reason.

The difference between kicking and hiccups
Hiccups are very rhythmic and usually last up to 5 minutes
Kicking is spontaneous and not as close together as hiccups. When I was pregnant my baby had hiccups constantly approx. 3x a day especially after I ate.

When they have the hiccups its like a steady movement. Usually when they are kicking it is sporadic and not predictable but with the hiccups you can tell the next time they will hiccup if you pay attention. If s/he moves in a steady rhythm for a little while you can almost bet its hiccups.

Well for me i just new it had to be hiccups...just think about how your chest pops out when you hiccup..and how you have one then it stops then another and soo on...its the same with the baby...the feeling will come and go come and go..I am 36 weeks and my lil one just had the hiccups lol...its a neat feeling when you are up during the day...but when you are trying to sleep its like having someone poke you ....it keeps me awake....But for me i just new it was hiccups for sure once i felt it...im not sure if everyone is the same on that tho...Good luck!!

You'll know. The kicks are more sporadic. Hiccups are usually nice and even. My daughter had the hiccups all the time, and she still does!

When my babies had the hiccups it felt like popcorn popping in my tummy. Thats the best way I could explain it.

I didn't feel the hiccups until about 30 weeks. But you'll know it when you feel it. They're really regularly timed bumps. like every 2 seconds, like clockwork. It doesn't last too long each time, maybe 30 seconds. it's really cool. I love knowing that my baby's muscles and lungs are starting to work. : )

I didn't figure this out until my third pregnancy. A kick is once or twice, but hiccups will keep happening.
