I honestly believe it is anyone with conservaive beliefs, whether it is political religous or what-have-you. People who are conservative are scared of change that they believe to be correct. If a person disagrees with another's lifestyle it does not mean that they should be discriminated for it and not allowed the same rights as others (like many have said, it goes against the Constitution, and every Americans freedom of choice).

What most "religous fanatics" forget is that all through Biblical history it was expected for a man to have multiple wives. Not like there was any shortage on humans or anything so I don't agree with the idea that it was for procreation purposes or to spread thier religon because then they wouldn't bother with converting people either.

As far as gay marriage goes, it should not even be a political arguement, it's purely based on religous beliefs. If I decided I wanted to marry a woman I wouldn't walk into a, say, Catholic church and expect the priest to perform the ceremony because it's not what he believes to be right. There are religous communities that will honor the idea of gay marraige and can't do it for political reasons. That is the problem.

Society itself has already sullied the "sanctity" of marriage. Everyday a marriage falls apart and everyday there are people who, in a drunken haze, get married by Elvis and have it anulled the next day. I am not saying that things like this might not happen when gays are allowed to be married... I'm making a point that us as humans and as a society have already shown that marriage is not what it use to be and outlawing a group from having the choice to or not makes no sence.

I would say most of them do, but not all. Most conservatives tie their political views with religious views, hence opposing gay unions.

I however tend to have more conservative views (especially in my state of California) however I do not oppose gay unions. If we have seperated church and state in this country, then there is no political reason a union shouldn't be between 2 people rather than having to be a man and a woman. However, the idea of marriage seems to stem from religion. So it is a bit of a catch 22.

Regardless of whether or not they want to call it something other than marriage, I think for legal reasons same-sex unions should be allowed. Homosexuals have been around just as long as straight people and have always been discriminated against for it. In situations where 2 life partners have been together for decades and then one passes and their partner doesn't have rights to their estate is a very unfortunate thing, also medical benefits for same-sex families is another unfortunate loss.

Anyhow, I'm getting off on a tangent here, but yes most conservatives are opposed, however there are a few who are not.

As for conservatives being the main ones opposing gay marriage, you are incorrect. John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Howard Dean, and other big democrat names believe in civil union ( which I don't think very many people disagree with) and not gay marriage. For Pete's sake Bill Clinton signed the Defense of Marriage Act whic said:

No state (or other political subdivision within the United States) need recognize a marriage between persons of the same sex, even if the marriage was concluded or recognized in another state.

The Federal Government may not recognize same-sex or polygamous marriages for any purpose, even if concluded or recognized by one of the states.

It's time to stop casting this as a republican issue.

Yes, conservatives do oppose gay marriage. But we do NOT discriminate. Just because we disagree with the lifestyle doesn't mean we discriminate.

liberals discriminate against zionists! I thought all people had the same rights under the constitution, not according to most neo-commies though.

Broad generalization. Gay people can be together but we shouldn't redefine marriage for them.
