WHAT KIND OF FLOWERS (OR BUSHES) CAN BE GROWN INDOORS? MY ELDERLY MOTHER IS BED RIDDEN NOW. AND SINCE SHE WAS SUCH A LOVER OF PLANTS I WOULD LOVE TO BRING THE OUTDOORS INDOORS FOR HER TO ENJOY. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS, I DID NOT INHERIT HER GREEN THUMB SO I KNOW VERY LITTLE ABOUT WHAT PLANTS WOULD WORK AND WHICH ONES WOULD NOT. AND WHERE COULD I FIND THESE PLANTS THIS TIME OF THE YEAR? I AM IN NORTH DAKOTA.

I agree with the above answerers who said African Violets. How about orchids? I know, I know, you think that they are difficult and impossible to care for, but trust me, they're not. I thought so at first too, until I got a couple of my own. You just have to know which kind to get - try a phaelenopsis - they're the most user-friendly orchid out there. And the flowers last for weeks and weeks. You could also try gardenias, jasmine, or hibiscus. Amaryllis and paperwhites are pretty when they're blooming, but once they're done, all you've got left are a bunch of ugly bulbs, no foliage. You can also get smallish pots of Azaleas at the florist or nursery. Christmas is coming, why not a poinsettia? They last for ages after the holidays so long as you water them regularly - I had one go well into the summer one year. And the nice thing now is you aren't stuck with the traditional red. Try a pink one, or white, or peach. They're not too holidayish after the holidays. Hope I gave you some ideas. Good luck.

Adding plants will enhance your mothers life immensely and help her emotionally as well. Check out an on line nursery for details on the plants and how to order on line. Or go to your local home improvement center, however at this time of year it will be harder to find them. The bulbs would be your best bet for this time of year, and the African Violets. Good luck and enjoy!

First of all, go to a local florist or nursery. They can help you find some really wonderful plants. African Violets are relatively easy to take care of. Also, cyclamen, amaryllis, narcissis, gloxinia are good choices. They are a bulbous plant though and will go into a dormancy period after blooming. With the Holiday Season approaching, poinsettias are a good choice, but the will eventually loose their colorful bracts (what many actually consider the flowers). They can flower again wiht a little encouragement.. Hope this helps!

You are going to have to find a plant that is flowering now. For this time of the year, a Christmas cactus is beautiful, or paperwhites or amarillys would be good, too. If you get good sun, a kalanchoe is easy to grow. Make sure they all get lots of light and water, not too much though. Moist to the touch. Good luck

Violets are pretty and they flower year round.
You should have a nursery around the area.
Ask them what else they recommend.
Spider plants are easy to grow.
Most of my plants only flower seasonally, that's why I love violets!!

WalMart has amaryllis bulb and paper white narcissus bulb kits available right now in their stores. Super easy to grow.... instructions included, everything you need is in the box except the water.
Also a terrific holiday gift, either already growing or still in the box. Costs about $5 - $7 per kit.
