Make up should be replaced EVERY 3 months expiration date or not though most cosmetics have 12, 24 and indefinite shelf life when unopened and stored in a cool dry place. This is due to bacterial growth. If you have severe acne it should be replaced every month and applied with disposable brushes sponges or Q-tips (though my recommendation is to avoid makeup all together if you have severe acne...). If you are diagnosed with pink eye or any type of fungal or bacterial skin infection your makeup should be tossed and replaced immediately and not used until after the skin infection clears. Never share makeup as this is a source of additional bacteria.

The main reason cosmetics have an expiration date is because of the bacteria that, quite honestly, is just breeding in it after too long. And no one wants to apply bacteria-ridden foundation to their face.

Yes. Mascara is good for 3-6 mos, as well as blush and eyeshadow. Foundation's good for a year. Lipstick is good for a year or two.
These expiration dates are used because bacteria build up after a while, and can harm you.

Yes.
Mascara is good for 3 months - seriously - or you can get eye infections.
Powdered products like eye shadow are good for 3 years.
Foundation - liquid 6 months if opened - powder is 2 years.
If it has SPF in it, it is good for 2 years - and probably has an expiration date on the crimped end of a tube or the bottom of a bottle.

they do!!! look on the pacakaging! there is a little symbol that looks like a can and then it will give you a so many months- what that means is that once the prodcut is open- the intergrity of the product is for about so many months!! it is usually about 24- 36 or so :)
and like everyone is saying Masacara is a little different - the colld damp dak tube that it is stored in - is a breeding ground for bacteria.. 3 months is more than enough then get a new one!

yes- general rule is to throw out liquid based cosmetics (i.e. concealer, foundation) after 6 months, and throw out mascara after 3 months. i don't think eye shadow or powder based makeup expires, as i've had some of that stuff for years and its still good

Yes...if you use them too long they don't last as long on your face and the binders that hold the ingredients together start to disintegrate so makeup can get chunky and weird and starts to separate.
Also and most importantly, it breeds bacteria. I get eye infections easily from my contacts so I have to be careful with eye makeup.
FYI-If you DO get an eye infection for any reason, stop using makeup and throw it out any you used while you had the infection. (a nurse told me this the last time I had pink eye)

Yes, depending on what they are.
Mascara is 3-6 months. Other eye makeup is 6-9 months. Foundation, around 1 year.

Some do. I know mascara does. Rule of thumb is you shouldn't use liquid make ups six months after you've opened them.
